To open up this substack, I’m transferring articles from a LinkedIn newsletter I started called “Rhythm & Resolve.” Have a read.
There is a strange danger that shows up right after a hard season ends.
You finally get through the project. The pressure lifts. The deadline passes. The crisis settles. The thing you were waiting for finally arrives.
And the first instinct is relief.
That is not wrong. Relief is good. Rest is necessary.
But if we’re not careful, relief can become retreat.
We tell ourselves, “I made it,” and without noticing, we start stepping back from the very habits, disciplines, and responsibilities that carried us through. The season that strengthened us becomes the season we use as an excuse to disengage.
But what if the hard season was not merely something to survive?
What if it was preparation?
Most transitions are not finish lines.
They are launching points. We know this instinctively. Graduation does not mean learning is over. A promotion does not mean growth is over. A breakthrough does not mean discipline is over.
A good question following every season of growth and stretching should be, “What has this prepared me for?”
Don’t mistake relief for retirement.
The next season is about to ask something of you. And you weren’t ready before. But you are now.
So lean in.
